1995 Alembic Essence 4 string bass with custom inlays
This bass is no longer for sale (sold on 2008-09-10)
Price : US $2,500.

This is a beautiful Alembic Essence with stunning Egyptian-themed fretboard inlays of abalone, mother of pearl, wood, dix gold, and reconsitituted stone. I believe the premium top wood is curly koa and I couldn’t quite capture the beautiful streaks of red in the photos.
The extremely fast neck is a five-laminate curly maple with what I believe are walnut pinstripes. It plays like a dream.
I took the bass into Alembic for a check-up and they replaced the filter integrated circuit and rewired it for me. The bass sounds incredible with those wonderful Alembic “cut-through-the mix” highs.
The bass comes with a reinforced case—not a hard shell but much more protective than a gig bag.
If you ordered an Essence with this body top wood, the instrument alone would retail for $6,000 or more and the custom inlays would cost thousands more. Here is your chance to get a stunning bass at a fraction of the cost. If you don’t know about the Essence, it is one of the lightest Alembic basses made and not hard on your back.
The bass is in excellent condition, but not mint. There is a half-inch ding on the upper horn, a 1.25-inch smudge on the bottom, and the scuffed brass plate where the neck joins the body. Other than that, there are a few tiny dings hardly worth mentioning and impossible to photograph. No noticeable buckle rash.
