I’m selling a custom-made Garz Guitars single-cut, fretted 4-string bass. I am the second owner of this bass. I bought it 3 years ago and it has lived in my smoke-free home studio ever since. Mark Garza is a world-class custom luthier out of California. His guitars rarely trade on the resale market, but when they do they often bring almost as much as they did new – sometimes more. Mark’s custom basses start at $1,600. The top wood and preamp on this one alone would put it well over $2,000.
It is in excellent condition with just a couple of light nail marks in the top where my right thumb rests as I play. The body is swamp ash with a beautiful contrasting top of Wenge and a matching headstock overlay. The neck is a five-piece lamination of mahogany and purpleheart. I’m not at all sure of the fretboard wood, but if I had to guess I would say it is Macassar ebony. It will ship with a very solid PRO-TEC semi-rigid case.
This bass features a rare and unusual 9-volt active pre-amp made by Audere. The range of tones achievable from this preamp is nothing short of amazing. For more information on the Audere system, visit their web site at www.audereaudio.com. The soapbar pickups are by Bartolini and the bridge and tuners are both by Hipshot. The instrument is solid at approximately 9 pounds, but the resonance is incredible. It is currently strung with DR Black Beauties, but I have used DR High Beams on it in the past and I do think they are a little brighter.
I love the sound and versatility of this bass
